CHITA is a chimpanzee of nearly 18 years old. He is the oldest male of all the orphaned apes rescued by J.A.C.K. (Jeunes Animaux Confisqués au Katanga) , a primate sanctuary located in the South of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Unlike most of his friends, CHITA was taken from the wild by poachers. His group, his mother were killed to supply the bushmeat market and CHITA was sold for little money on a local market to become a pet.
This is how his path met Franck and Roxane’s (the Founders of the DRC sanctuary) who rescued him and who work on his welfare and release. CHITA is a growing chimpanzee. Of course, he longs for bananas and for good food every day. However, since he is the oldest male, he wants his big family to go back to the wild, and, for the time being, to stay in a loving place safe from harm and from malicious people.
Humans are the chimpanzees’ main threat!
When CHITA was a baby, greedy poachers slaughtered his mother.
Then, upon arrival at J.A.C.K. in 2006, he survived the arson (angry wildlife traffickers) that killed two of his innocent baby friends.
Located in the city of Lubumbashi, the sanctuary is now under threat and, despite armed Rangers of the DRC National Parks patrolling day and night, it regularly goes through sabotage (theft of electric cables, water pipes, etc.).
Incursions indeed usually take place at night. It is obvious that, because of the pandemic, many people have found themselves unemployed and that jumping over the perimeter walls of the sanctuary to steal equipment is a way to get easy money.
Unfortunately, by doing so, the trespassers also put the lives of CHITA and his friends at risk! Their species in the wild suffers enough from human’s insatiableness and there is no reason why they should suffer more when being rehabilitated!
« Be the change you want to see in this world » (M. Gandhi)
Don’t let these intruders frighten CHITA and his friends anymore! Your contribution will help to enforce the security of the perimeter wall and to bring solar light at night especially during the everlasting power cuts! With $25 you can purchase 10m of barbed wire to fix on top of the wall and $17 will enable the sanctuary to buy and place 9 neon tubes close to CHITA’s night rooms.
Finally, become a Chimp Ambassador by using your voice for CHITA and his friends. Spread his message by asking 5 of your friends to help HIM on this first of December.
December the 1st is actually GIVING TUESDAY, which is an opportunity for people around the world to come together through generosity in all its forms by sharing acts of kindness and giving their voice, time, money, goods, and advocacy to support communities and causes.
J.A.C.K. greatly needs support to provide its rescued chimpanzee orphans with the needed security. Consider making a donation on this very special day for these very special orphans who need YOU to survive!
Thank YOU for THEM!
Your donation will be directed to the fundraiser platform of our French Charity « LES AMIS DE JACK ». It is very hard and very expensive to send donations to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and therefore our French Charity is of great help!
Thank you for your understanding!
